Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater harvesting is the technique of collection and storage of rainwater into natural reservoirs or tanks.  We focus on the method of rooftop rainwater harvesting.

For those of you who do not have the luxury of a borehole, harvesting your rainwater is a great way to catch a substantial amount of water to use in your garden and for the topping up of your pool.

Why invest in
harvesting
your rainwater?

To put it into perspective, Cape Town’s annual rainfall is an average of 788mm per year.
With a small roof space of only 150m2, an enormous 118 200L can be harvested if you had the tank storage capacity!

The benefits are:

  • It reduces the demand for potable water, saving water & energy
  • Water bills are reduced – saving you money every month. In the last few years the municipal water & sewage costs have escalated more than inflation
  • Rainwater is usually free from harmful chemicals
  • Rainwater is ideal to irrigate your garden & top up your pool
  • Rainwater harvesting systems are easy to maintain
  • You will have water even if there are water outages in your area
  • It negates overload of storm water systems which can cause erosion & flooding

Wondering where to start?

Let us assess all the following factors to determine the most efficient way to harvest water on your property:

  • Do you have enough space for a tank?
  • Do you require a concrete base for the tank to rest on?
  • What is your primary need for the harvested water? Irrigation or for household use?
  • Will it be your primary source of water or a backup to municipal supply?
  • Do you have standard PVC or aluminium gutters?
  • Where will the overflow water go to if your tank is full and what kind of pump would you require to pump water out of your tank?
  • How will the amount of debris entering your tank be minimised?

Your garden will thank you!
